Looks like fun but I don't really understand the point system. |

are dedi servers confirmed?? |
#7 |
|
| Kaiden : |
is lan confirmed is the question |
#8 |
|
| Syko7iK : |
As far as i know
Dedicated servers : Confirmed.
Lan Play - Confirmed as NOT existent. |
#9 |
|
| Dead Man : |
I got told confirmed for LAN |
#10 |
|
| Worthless : |
I haven't heard anything about LAN support. |
#11 |
|
| Worthless : |
What we know so far:
Dedi Servers: Confirmed, but locked to GameServers. Nobody else can run servers.
LAN Support: Neither confirmed nor denied.
Anti-cheat: VAC Confirmed
Global Online Profiles: Confirmed (ie. theoretically no way to hack your rank, at least on PC).
Everything console get, PC gets as well as dedicated servers. There are NO lobbies on PC for obvious reasons. |

| Dead Man : |
I need LAN play, otherwise people who have no net most of the time don't have any ability to rank up more than 1 day every couple of months |
#13 |
|
| Thommo : |
No lobbies on PC isn't obvious to me. So is that basically the same online features as MW2 then? |
#14 |
|
| Worthless : |
No lobbies means basically instead of:
Game ends -> pre-game lobby -> game starts
You get:
Game ends -> game starts
Like CoD4. |
#15 |
|
| Thommo : |
Can't say that really bothered me. COD4 had a fairly long pause between games so might as well be in a lobby in that time so you can fiddle with any new perks etc. |

problem was with cod6 system was..
IWnet Flaws
a. no custom content (which shortens the games lifespan of this is great to this is shit boring)
b. host servers mostly full of arseholes or hackers of some description who couldn't be banned/kicked by an admin
c. no community (you had to go to a private host to play the same bloke twice)
d. lag
e. if host leaves game migrates which isn't very good if you're in an intense game or in a firefight.
f. waiting sometimes up to 5 minutes to play a game
g. Long wait between games
IWnet Pro's
a. easy private hosting for clans
b. able to have all your friends on same team as you from the start of the game
c. gave you time to edit classes after a game
|

IWNet had POTENTIAL to be a great system. But it failed. Hard. @17 you forgot to mention the massive amount of hackers that were running rings around the useless VAC system and you could do nothing except leave the game. No votekick. |
#18 |
|
| Thommo : |
Just kinda seems like black ops wont be alot different. Dedicated servers should fix the lag and host migrating problem. But not been able to create your own custom dedicated server really limits the fun factor. Sure it will be fun for a little while until the DLC comes out which will be just in time for the next COD game.... Activision are cunts! They might get 'sploded if they start screwing with Blizzard. COD is basically a console game now with console game mentality. Problem is that most games are getting that mentality too. |

Easy to see their point of view.
Console = Near-zero piracy, higher prices and nearly zero overhead (they only need to run master servers). Plus easier ENFORCED patching for all players, near-zero hacking (except through in-game exploits).
PC = Opposite. |

|
| Thommo : |
Makes alot of sense to them. Just a pity that PC gaming has to suffer and we get screwed. |
#21 |

| Jamie : |
COD MW3 is coming out !!! XD |
#22 |
|
| Worthless : |
Yup, next year. Then after that probably this stupid CoD MMO. Activision have the money train fully fueled and ready to make a round trip every year. |

riighht...now which noob told me the viet kong are not in Black Ops.
There are 3 rival factions *sighs*
seriously would they research first. |
#25 |
|
| Dead Man : |
just realised, black ops servers will be running from a single location in Australia.
Australia must then have the largest COD playing amount of people then :P |
#26 |
|
| Dead Man : |
to bad that it's there still, wish this dedi servers idea would just piss off |
#27 |
|

GameServers are a decent provider and latency to Sydney from Melbourne is insignificant than that to a closer location. Ravage is hosted in Sydney and it's still lightning fast from home. |
#28 |
|
| Syko7iK : |
Game servers are a pretty good provider. My old cod clan had our teamspeak with them and mywow guilds vent is with them with no problems. .. This dedis idea is a good idea tbh because it means server prices will be fixed price globally |
#29 |
|
| lolcats : |
bt as i said before dnt knw where bt all treyarch did rite was google game servers and went with 1st link :P XD
they dont sound legit but they are a good provider as ive herd alot of good things about them
|
#30 |
|
| Dead Man : |
i know that i just mean as in dedi servers suck |
#31 |
|
| Syko7iK : |
dedi servers suck?
Are you crazy?
Dedis > P2P
Yes, p2p might be easier to find a full server, but p2p is for consoles, not computer. Computer has *nearly* always had dedicated servers, and look how popular the idea of p2p for pc was, nearly everyone hated the idea. The potential was there, but like always, the developers screw it up.
Id take a dedi server, with dedicated hardware, over a noob with 64k net and host hacks so that he always gets host ANYDAY |
